I think that Valentines day is a nice idea, especially if you own a card company like Hallmark or you run a restaurant or chocolate factory and it is really nice to treat your partner on valentines. However if it is the only day of the year where you do treat each other with gifts and/or compliments then maybe you need to re-evaluate your love life. Then there are many who are alone on valentines and I find that the media kinda rubs it in a bit around valentines, not that being single is bad... it can be great and not everyone wants to share their life, money, bathroom with anyone else but there are many who do feel very lonely on the 14th of february. Also even couples can feel the pressure to spend more than they have on valentines, everybody's budgets are different a box of chocolates to one couple and a lambo to another doesn't mean they love their significant other any more or less.
The thing is that whilst searching the web for alternative valentines activities I found that many places suggested speed dating, blind dates and so on for singles... reinforcing that if you are alone on valentines you can't possibly be happy.... absolute bull. So wether your married, living in sin (I feel a much better way of saying cohabiting... just sounds more fun) dating, single or whatever tell your loved ones that you care... even if your next of kin is your cat.... but if you have the money a lambo is pretty cool too (but not so much for a cat..... lack of opposable thumbs). If you are going to celebrate valentines day and you have a partner make sure you don't just treat them once a year and if you are single treat yourself.... its not all about money either, treats can be free (as opposed to a lambo* which costs about 180k)
